A 500-room luxury resort group on the Mediterranean coast faced two intertwined problems: rising freshwater costs and growing pressure from local authorities to reduce water draw during peak season. Guest demand for spa, pool and laundry services made conservation alone insufficient.
RIEFILT designed an MBR-based greywater recycling system, capturing wastewater from showers, sinks and laundry for reuse in toilet flushing, irrigation and cooling tower makeup. The plug-and-play containerized installation was commissioned within 8 weeks under a 10-year BOOT contract.
The resort cut its annual freshwater draw by approximately 75,000 m³, saving €180,000 per year in utility costs. The project supports the resort's sustainability certification and has become a flagship reference for the parent hotel group's broader ESG strategy.
For hospitality operators, water security is increasingly a brand and regulatory issue. RIEFILT's BOOT model gives resort operators full access to advanced recycling technology without diverting capital from guest experience investments.
The system integrates with existing building management systems and reports real-time consumption and savings data — useful both for operations and for guest-facing sustainability communication.
